Billing & Insurance

The CMU Student Health Services Billing office staff is here and ready to help you with your questions related to medical billing and health insurance.

CMU Heath will bill any insurance – however we do not “participate” with every insurance, and we are not “in network” with every insurance.

It is always the patient’s responsibility to know exactly how their insurance company will process claims from CMU Health. Patients should call the number on the back of their insurance card and ask questions about coverage and benefits while they are away from home.

Contact your insurance company prior to your appointment, and ask if you need a pre-authorization before visiting our clinic.

PLEASE BE PREPARED: Copay is expected at time of service.

What to Bring to Your Appointment

When visiting CMU Health clinics for medical and/or psychiatry services, patients should be prepared to present all insurance information at registration, including:

  • Insurance card (or copy or photo of card)
  • CMU ID card
  • Personal information about the subscriber
  • Copay to be collected after your service

Important Facts Your Insurance Company Needs to Know

  • CMU Health is not classified as an urgent care clinic
  • CMU Health bills as a physician’s office

For Patients with No Insurance

CMU Health offers a self-pay discount for most services. Please contact the Billing Office at 989-774-6599 for more information.
